I've never submitted a story via email before and was wondering what the general format is. I'm guessing the short story is attached in a document file and the cover letter in the main body of the email. But where do you place the cover sheet for the short story?
oops, I never put a cover sheet with an email attachment, maybe that's where I'm going wrong! By the way, on a different topic, I had a letter accepted by TAB after being inspired by your blog about fillers, so thanks, Womag! Happy Happy! Cate
With apologies for going off on another subject, did anyone else see an article about The Lady being modernised by its new owner? It wasn't an April Fool was it? Have just tried their website and it was "not found". Wonder if it will make a difference to the outcome of their competition which seems so long ago now...
I heard the new Editor-at-large being interviewed on Radio 4's "Woman's Hour" this morning (Thursday 2nd April) so I'm sure you can hear it on Listen Again. There was no mention of fiction just the fact that the editors want new readers so they are making the mag more up to date.
I didn't know where else to put this, so decided on your most recent addition.
I'm new to writing, though it's something I've wanted to do for years and years, but with an unsupportive husband (now ex) I didn't get anywhere. Now I'm just starting out on the Writers Bureau course, and loving every minute of it, especially as my first assignment had only one correction and excellent feedback.
But that's not what I want to talk about really. There is a new magazine out called First Edition, and it is full of short stories of all genres, along with articles and serialised novels. They have a website by that name too.
Ok the proof-reading leaves a little to be desired, but it is a new publication run by a young team. I'm really enjoying the short stories, which have inspired one or two ideas of my own. (Not in the plagiarism sense).
It may be worth checking it out and giving it a go. I think they pay £100 and free mags for 3 months for a published short story. Look for it when you get the next edition of Writers Forum, it should be on the same shelf.
Fantastic Blog Womag, I've learned a lot from reading this, so thank you.

Hi Anon
I put the cover sheet as the first page of the story, and send as an attachment. What normally goes in a covering letter goes in the email body.
