You know you've made it when...

... you're mentioned in MsLexia!

Well, not me, but this blog.

There's a lovely long piece by Janey Fraser (also known as Jane Bidder and Sophie King)  about writing short stories for the women's magazine market, and in it she says: Make sure you visit womagwriter.blogspot.com regularly; it's bursting with opportunities.

MsLexia has always seemed too literary a magazine to take much of an interest in women's mag fiction, so it's great to see it giving womag writing the respect it deserves. And very nice of Janey to mention this little blog.

For those interested in the more literary end of the fiction spectrum, MsLexia's a brilliant magazine, with in-depth articles, great fiction and poetry, and good opportunities for writers.

In other news, I've finally got going properly on Twitter. Find me there: @KathMcGurl
Just now I saw a tweet from a facebook friend who's just had 4 stories accepted by The Weekly News. He said: couldn't have done it without womagwriter.blogspot.com.

I am glowing with pride now. :-)

I actually cheered when I saw Jane Bidder's piece in Mslexia. Womag writing may have a different target audience from more literary short fiction but there's no way that it's any easier to write or should be dismissed. (I once publicly had to read out my report on a 'twist' short story competition I'd judged to a full hall of SWWJ members. Eek! The entries were totally anonymous to me until the winner author came up to receive her cheque! Fortunately, it was Jane Bidder and I felt totally vindicated. A brilliant writer.

Well done Kath. I read your blog avidly when I was just starting out and I'm sure I wouldn't have had as much womag success if I hadn't.

And glow with pride you should!
You've always been generous and helpful with your sharing of information and have made a great deal of difference to a lot of writers, myself included.

I love Mslexia - and it's great to see it spreading its genre wings a bit. And it was a great piece that Jane Bidder wrote.

I always tell beginners (everyone else too) to look at this blog as it's brilliant. I haven't seen the Mslexia piece as I don't subscribe but if they're broadening their outlook, maybe it's time I did.

Your glow is well-deserved. And like others I always mention it to any creative writing student interested in writing for woman magazines...

Your blog got me started. It's so informative and accurate, but even more important, it helps new writers to feel success is attainable. My husband spotted it when I didn't know one end of a computer from the other and I was immediately entranced. Thank you. x

I'm so glad I was introduced to womagwriter's blog. It actually inspired me to try again at the women's short story market after a long gap. So informative and generous. I have just sent a story to The Weekly News, which until this blog I didn't know existed. However, I noticed on your guidelines it said I should get an auto reply after emailing my story but I didn't get this. Anyone else or just me? Also, I attached my story - should it be pasted into the email? Any advice from anyone much appreciated. Thanks again.

Well deserved mention, womag.

I'd never have taken the step to sending short stories out without your encouragement and advice on here.

Funnily enough I read that excellent feature while away in Devon this weekend, in a holiday cottage. The owner writes poetry and subscribes to Mslexia, which is why the magazine was there!
