In case you missed it, here's a link to the extra post I made on Tuesday, with three free to enter competitions, all with a Scottish flavour.
Thanks to Alyson for this 350 word story competition. There's no theme. First prize is $200, with two further prizes of $50.
My news
Here's another promotion I'm involved in. If you like cosy mysteries, do take a look.
How's your writing going?

Thanks Patsy and Alyson. That competition looks great as I see that even the shortlisted entries will get a prize and be published online, so 10 prizes up for grabs.
ReplyDeleteI’ve not entered any of the Scottish-themed ones, but I did have haggis, neeps and tatties for lunch yesterday (in Birmingham!) and my sister became the first female president of the local Burns Club where she lives, so a bit of Burns celebrations going on.
I’ve had a poem shortlisted in a comp - no prize and just my name will be included on the list when the results are out next week. I’m starting to call this my bridesmaid poem, it’s been entered so many times and ended up long or short-listed. Ah well, maybe next time!
All the best to everyone with your writing this week.
Ah, Fiona, I empathize! My "bridesmaid poem" did a few rounds and ended up at Victory Radio being placed... with a prize, so don't lose heart! Thank you, Patsy and Alyson. I won't be entering the Scottish one but I have "finished" my crime story for WM. Hmmm...,. Very linear, not very... exciting? Got all the players, red herrings etc..., but now needs a good dose of editing and sparkle. It's been a... learning experience?
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the news both today and Tuesday. I've got a story due early Feb in Woman's Weekly. By the way, Marguerite, which mag does WM stand for? Been trying to think but probably not fully awake yet. Im currently working on adapting a story I tried in a couple of competitions without success. Its one of those that I would really like to see published so am trying to adapt for the womag market. We will see. Happy writing all.
ReplyDeleteWriting Magazine - you're right, Sharon. Fee, less for subscribers and some are free to enter if you're a subscriber. The challenge 1500-1700 words each month, varied themes, some open. I just didn't want to miss out hence the crime try! Congratulations on the WW. Still one I am trying to crack, apart from the 'on file'.
DeleteI thought WM meant writing magazine but I could be wrong. Well done to all with positive news.
ReplyDeleteOh yes of course. Thanks Marguerite and Sharon.
ReplyDeleteMessage from Sheelagh - "Thanks Patsy & Alyson, I might try the 350 word competition, I'm not great for entering competitions other than I.O. annual competition but this one is nice & short.
ReplyDeleteI'm having difficulties making comments on this blog at moment as I can do from my laptop, keep getting a message saying 'Failed to publish, try again later' "
Thank you Patsy and Alyson. I shall have a go at the 350 word competition - first piece of writing for this year.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed looking at that promo, Patsy! I love Cosy Mysteries.
Dee
Thank you, Patsy, for the post today and Tuesday. I have submitted a couple of stories that have been hanging around for a while 🤞🤞. I'm hoping for inspiration to start on something new next week.
