They are no longer accepting unsolicited stories since their merger. Instead they will commission stories from their select list of authors. At least they were kind enough to return my work.Volcanolizzyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00684731614381144952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539691603325793063.post-70277358937137385322016-10-06T14:13:26.682+01:002016-10-06T14:13:26.682+01:00I started writing for womags in the 70s, and rates...I started writing for womags in the 70s, and rates have stayed exactly the same. But I Agree with Shane that £200 for 700 words isn't bad. And I can only think of one magazine that pays more. We have to accept that the market has shrunk, and magazine fiction is fighting for survival. When I started out, there were about eight weeklies that bought fiction; now there are hardly any. TAB is a good market for me because the stories I tend to write and sell are rather short and £200 for seven hundred words isn't something to be sniffed at - but the drop in pay for longer stories, especially with the market as small as it is, can't be very encouraging for those writers who've been at it years and getting paid the old Shane Telfordnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539691603325793063.post-26085891638003099822016-10-05T11:00:19.861+01:002016-10-05T11:00:19.861+01:00Funny how in any career where women make up the ma...Funny how in any career where women make up the majority, wages go down.Geraldine Ryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00520915919391705206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539691603325793063.post-89026055580185510522016-10-05T00:08:27.701+01:002016-10-05T00:08:27.701+01:00I wouldn't be surprised if more markets follow...I wouldn't be surprised if more markets follow suit and lower their pay rate - That's Life Australia have just updated their guidelines and no longer want 1800+ word stories so their top tier fee is no longer an option.Shane Telfordnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6539691603325793063.post-12886522290622989272016-10-04T16:44:11.241+01:002016-10-04T16:44:11.241+01:00No longer makes any financial sense for me now to ...No longer makes any financial sense for me now to send stories to this magazine.Geraldine Ryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00520915919391705206noreply@blogger.com
