I was pleased to see two short stories in the UK That's Life Summer special. Don't get too excited though as I contacted them and was told by smeone in reader's services that they've had a change of policy and won't be continuing with the fiction. Sigh.
Who makes these decisions and why - and is there anything we can do to convince them that readers do want fiction in their magazines?
We can only hope they'll realise their mistake before too long.
ReplyDeleteI think one way is to go onto the comments sites of the individual mags and say how much you liked the story; I often hear people who read mags say to each other how much they enjoyed the short story, and I find myself wishing they'd put that in writing! Magazines really like and respond to reader feedback.
ReplyDeleteYes, stories add such a lot to the reading joy of a magazine - shall email a vote for the PleaseKeepTheFiction campaign...
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame but I wasn't aware they had fiction in that mag.
ReplyDeleteLetting the magazines who do publish fiction know we enjoy it seems like a good idea. I worry it looks like self interest coming from writers - but of course we're readers too.
ReplyDeleteMine was accepted on 30 March.
