Best wishes for 2026

Do you have writing plans for 2026?

My aims are to enter a few more competitions, complete the next novel in my cosy mystery series, get back to writing occasional articles – and to continue writing womag short stories.

Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to this blog by providing information and/or leaving comments. The support is hugely appreciated and makes womagwriter a far more useful resource than it would be if I were doing everything myself. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year, and lots of good things during 2026.

I've got a request. I'm working on an article and would like to hear from anyone who had their first womag acceptance this year, after many attempts (first ever, or first for that magazine) and is willing to be quoted. If that's you, please email me at patsycollins53@yahoo.com

  1. I would really like to spend more time this coming year on a longer writing project, fingers crossed.
Love the photo of the delicate coloured Helleborus, beautiful Patsy.
A big thank you for keeping the blog running so well, too, without you it wouldn't happen.

  2. Like Sheelagh, I'd like to try for a longer writing project, even if it's just to explore and experiment. My goal is to immerse myself in TPF and crack it! My limpet-like tenacity WILL win! (she says πŸ˜‰, she hopes...) Again, a thank you for nurturing the blog and keeping it full of avenues, suggestions and encouragement — and that's not an exhaustive list. Happy New Year to all. πŸΎπŸŽ‰

I'm hoping for some more short story acceptances. Like Helen, I've never been published in TPF, so perhaps 2026 will be the year we finally get in there! I would also like to try my hand at writing articles.

May I take this opportunity to thank Patsy and all contributors for the writing news/tips/competitions and for keeping this invaluable blog running. As well as being a useful resource, this blog has also become a kind and friendly place to share advice, concerns, frustrations, rejections and successes. It's just a shame that we can't meet up for real, although who knows what will happen in 2026.

Wishing you all a Happy, Healthy and Successful 2026! May creative inspiration abound.

    All the best,

    Ally

  5. My main goal is to concentrate on short stories because it’s where I feel most comfortable. I have had some acceptances recently, which really inspired me to keep going.
My longer project is still around, but I know it needs a lot of work still!!
Thank you to everyone on this blog for all the support this year.

  6. I agree, TPF is one of the aims for 2026!
I was delighted to have found your blog Patsy. I have enjoyed the support, good humour, friendly and helpful advice from your contributors, and all the submission and competition opportunities. I have submitted poems, flash fiction, and longer stories, which I wouldn’t have known about if I hadn’t read this blog.
    Thank you! Happy 2026 everyone.

  9. Like a few others, my aim it to try a longer project. I write first thing most days and vary between short stories, flash and poetry depending on my mood and what deadline or theme I’m working on (often provided through this lovely blog, so thank you Patsy and everyone who shares submission news). A big word count seems very daunting!
But my main aim is to just keep enjoying writing.
All the best for 2026 everyone!
