I know hallowe'en has been and gone, but I thought you might like these two photos, taken on my travels.
Free to enter writing competitionsSharon B has found another great opportunity for the right author. They need to be unagented and unpublished - in terms of novels for children or early teens. The first prize includes £2,000 and support to get your book published.
I've now signed my contract. The process is that Ceri explains the terms under which they're offering to publish the book, and asks if there are any questions. If you do have any, ask her rather than waiting for the draft contract. Although of course if that document raises any concerns or queries, ask about those before signing it. I did ask a couple of questions. ( I'm like that!) They were queries rather than actual concerns. I had answers within days.
Ceri will then ask her colleague to send a draft contract. If you're happy with that, then she sends the actual contract to be signed. You can do that electronically, by typing your name. Ceri then does the same and emails the complete document back, so you have a copy.
How is everyone? And how's the writing going?

Thanks Patsy and Sharon B. Great news that you’ve signed the contact Patsy.
ReplyDeleteI see the competition is for writers in the North of England, which is where I’m stopping off later this month (but not long enough to qualify!)
I’ll be on my way to read at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh on Friday 20th, (next to Waverley Station) at the launch of Magma Magazine’s Antarctica issue. Tickets are free or you can just turn up - 6.30pm - so if anyone is in Edinburgh and free it would be lovely to see you there.
I’ve been in poetry mode all week, so probably time to write another womag story. I like switching between the two and the story outline has been brewing all week - time to start!
Well done Patsy.
ReplyDeleteI'm like you Fiona, I switch from stories to poems. Most of my success this year has been poems to TPF.
I had almost 50 in the local paper's letters page until the letters page was phased out.
As the womag market has dwindled, I send my stories out to a variety of projects that don't pay. I'm ok with that.
Has anyone send anything to sonder books? They like to have stories submitted in a certain format.
My main aim is to try and get stories published- even if it's just online- and out there.
I'll have the results of the Write Time comp soon. I'll let you know how I've got on. I'm not expecting a positive result.
Thank you for looking, Sharon, but I am in one of the extreme souths of England, but you've found loads of stuff for us over many weeks. Yes, I'd say, don't hold your breath for Write time, but hope you DO get somewhere! I've given up (for the time being). I've finally finished my Pooh story for WM, sent my Christmas to Best, two sent for January plus for BOWW and a ghostie to Writingclubroom. Thank you for talking us through the process, Patsy. I hope that is successful ☺️ I hate those sign online things. I can't even cope that well with parcels at the door. I even have a 'special pen', but can I find it when I need it? Talking of which, where are those Christmas cake decorations again?
ReplyDeleteThank you Sharon, and pleased to hear the contract is signed, Patsy (great photo of a scaredy cat!)
ReplyDeleteMarguerite - I also have one of those ‘special’ pens, great to use on screens, you never know how many have people have touched them… ! 😊
Not a lot to report, enjoying writing a couple of stories, ready to send out.
Dee
Thank you Patsy and Sharon.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to hear the Ulverscroft process. Hope it goes well.
I'm trying to get back into writing but finding it hard after a break. 😕
HB
Very interesting to hear about Ulverscroft. Looking forward to the next instalment. I've just entered the Best Christmas competition.
ReplyDeleteCongratultions to all with news. Nothing much with me. I also entered the Best Christmas comp. Received my statement from Irish PLR for my two Ulverscroft books... less than half a cup of coffee so I'm obviously not popular in Ireland. I have greater hopes for the UK libraries 😂😂😂
ReplyDeleteThat was me!
