Two book deal!

Those who are friends with me on Facebook or followers on Twitter, may already have seen this news but hey, it's so fab I will post it here as well, and also over on soon.

I've been offered a two-book deal for my novels, from publisher Carina UK. I'm absolutely delighted with this - it's just what I'd been dreaming of but didn't dare to hope for!

These novels are time-slip - a historical story and a current day story unfold in alternating chapters, and ultimately dovetail. I love reading this kind of book, so back in 2012 I decided to try writing them. They've been fun to write and now I have a lovely editor to help me get them fully into shape and ready for publication.

Raise a glass of your favourite tipple in a virtual celebration with me. And rest assured I'll let you know when they're published!

Bits and pieces

Firstly, a huge warm womagwriter welcome back to the world of blogging to Sally Quilford, who has started a new blog I don't know about you, but I missed her while she was not blogging. OK, so I was in daily contact with her on a private forum but I missed her presence in the blogging world. Thankfully she's back, and to celebrate she's offering a signed copy of one of her books. Go on over and see what you need to do (before 20th June) to be in with a chance of winning it. Lots of other good stuff on offer there, especially for pocket novel and romance writers.

Secondly, talking of signed copies of books, I still have a few print copies of my two How To books, links on the right of this blog, to sell. If you'd like a signed copy, please contact me via the contact page above. I'm selling them at £5 each which includes postage. UK only, sorry.

Now then, here's an interesting competition which runs every month, with a US$100 prize. You need to write a 500 word story using 3 given words, which this month are Monkey, Cathedral and Relativity. That should get the brain juices flowing! Mash Stories is a good looking website with an online magazine and some fascinating blog articles. Do go and have a look - short story writers need all the support they can get and this website exists to provide that support.

And finally, keep checking back on this blog, because I just might have some exciting news to share with you all soon. It's all I can do to stop myself telling everyone now, but I really shouldn't, not till the ink is dry anyway (oh heck, was that a clue? Arrgh. It's so hard keeping quiet.)

You know you've made it when...

... you're mentioned in MsLexia!

Well, not me, but this blog.

There's a lovely long piece by Janey Fraser (also known as Jane Bidder and Sophie King)  about writing short stories for the women's magazine market, and in it she says: Make sure you visit regularly; it's bursting with opportunities.

MsLexia has always seemed too literary a magazine to take much of an interest in women's mag fiction, so it's great to see it giving womag writing the respect it deserves. And very nice of Janey to mention this little blog.

For those interested in the more literary end of the fiction spectrum, MsLexia's a brilliant magazine, with in-depth articles, great fiction and poetry, and good opportunities for writers.

In other news, I've finally got going properly on Twitter. Find me there: @KathMcGurl
Just now I saw a tweet from a facebook friend who's just had 4 stories accepted by The Weekly News. He said: couldn't have done it without

I am glowing with pride now. :-)
