Spam

Over the last few weeks I've been getting a lot of spam on the blog - dozens of posts per day. I tried moderating comments and although that stopped the comments appearing on the blog, it cluttered up my email system to such an extent I was worried I'd miss important messages.

Because of this, I've disabled anonymous comments at least temporarily. Sorry about that. If there's anyone who would like to comment or ask a question and isn't able to set up an account to allow them to do so, they're welcome to email me (address on 'contact me' page) and I'll post it for them.

So annoying - why do they waste their time as well as yours?!
Hope you can stop it.

Perhaps turning off anonymous comments for a while will do the trick - I hope so xx

So sorry to hear that, Patsy - you work so hard on this blog for our benefit, and oafs bombard it. Reiterate huge thanks for everything, and hope your other email is clear now. x

Yes thank you for all your hard work giving us so much extremely useful information Patsy and so sorry you have had this hassle from these mindless people. Hope you have got it sorted now xx

Thanks, everyone. I'm not sure it is actual people targetting the blog - could be automatic computer thingamies (I'm sure there's a technical term!) just like spam emails and recorded telephone spam.

Hope that's done the trick, Patsy - so annoying for bloggers when this happens.

I think it'll resolve itself now Patsy.
Pesky spammers! Shame we can't play them at their own game...

Spam ... the bane of all our lives, Patsy!

Been bad this month, Patsy. I've had 353 page views from Russia, even though I stopped allowing anonymous comments last year due to the spam issues happening.

It's annoying, but I've noticed blogger has stopped listing the URLs from them now.

I've had lists of words pop up in my comments lately. Looks like things someone is trying to sell. Of course I ignore it. I'm not sure what that tactic is supposed to accomplish. So far it's not so bad that I need to address it. They seem to come 5 or more days after posting when no one is around much anyway. Good to know there are things I can do if need be.
