Update on Seven Days

Siobhan Kielty and I have been in communication about Seven Days magazine. She has asked me to pass on the latest information via this blog. Sadly she's confirmed that, "the publisher of SevenDays has decided not to continue with the magazine in its current format." However there is a small glimmer of hope as "In the new year, the magazine will be available digitally in the short term while its direction / closure is decided."

I asked that if there was anything we could do to help secure the magazine's future and Siobhan replied, "I’m doing everything I can to resurrect it in one for or another! I’m hopeful there will be a place for it somewhere. I’ll let you know if there’s any news."

In response to my earlier query about payments she said, "I escalated the request and cheques should have been sent out to all writers." She assures me that all writers whose stories have been published will be paid. She will personally check with the accounts manager on the 3rd that this is happening.

Any work which has not been published, whether accepted or not, won't now be used or "may be freely submitted elsewhere with all rights offered."

Siobhan added "Although I'm really disappointed that the magazine won't continue, it was outside of editorial control. It was well received but I suppose it's exceptionally tough out there at the moment. I for one was proud of SevenDays and loved the fiction. At least some people had a chance to get their work in print (and they WILL be paid!)

I’ll keep you posted on any lifelines for SevenDays. Thanks again; your fiction army made the magazine really good. I’ll be in touch on 3rd. All the best, happy new year."

Thank you for this, Patsy. It's reassuring to know we'll be paid even if it means another market gone (even if it was only a fleeting one).

And a Happy New Year,

Thank you Patsy and Siobhan for the update.

I hope the management will change their mind. It's been a fabulous magazine with a lovely mix of content.

The last two issues, I managed to get the last copy in my local Sainsburys when other popular magazines, that came out at the same time, were still on the shelf.

Thanks, Patsy, for passing on the information. It is very sad that the magazine won't continue as was, but all good to Siobhan for trying. I have to agree it wasn't always easy to find a copy in the shops and there didn't appear to be much 'fanfare' about it.
I'll look forward to receiving my cheque, too.

Thanks patsy as always, I did get a lovely email reply from Siobhan today saying sadly my story that was accepted, won’t now be published but it gives me hope as she did say she enjoyed it so defo will submit it elsewhere. All this is just very sad.

Thanks for the update. I'd kind of given up on getting paid, so your info was welcome. At any rate, it was good to get into one of the early issues.

Thanks for the update, Patsy. Just so sad - but maybe a bit of hope, eh?

Thanks for the update Patsy. I didn't have any stories accepted but looks like good news for those who did. Such a shame as it hardly had time to get off the ground.

Thanks for the update Patsy and, as always, working so hard to get info on our behalf. Like Cathy,I had given up on payment so this is more hopeful news
Really sad about the magazine not continuing in print. Like others, I thought it was a great magazine and it was fabulous to have a new market to submit to, albeit briefly. Happy New Year to you too. Xx Sharon H

I hope it will remain in digital format, as those who subscribe to Readly might be able to continue to read it on there.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I'll keep you informed as and when there's more news.

Thanks for the update Patsy. That's a real shame. I was really excited when I heard a new magazine on the market. So sad that the Womag market is in such a sorry state.

Thank you for the update Patsy, I really appreciate you persevering, getting a response from SevenDays and sharing it. I've emailed Siobhan myself re payment for my story but didn't get a reply, but it looks as though there may be some hope of payment for myself and other writers whose stories were published. I too liked the format and had hopes Seven Days might find its niche, it didn't seem very long to be out there - was it 3 months?- but I guess they had to make a decision for this year.

Having bought all the previous issues I was puzzled at not being able to find the new one after the Christmas double issue. Only here have I been able to confirm that it has ceased publication. A pity since it had some interesting and enjoyable stuff.
