In case you were wondering...

Here's the final result for the poll I mentioned in my last post.

I asked those who said 'no' why not. Those who responded said something along the lines of not having anything against the idea but that they didn't feel it would make any difference to them personally.

Thanks Patsy, it would be great if magazines decided to implement this, here's hoping

I think it would be helpful if they did that.

This would be so helpful. I feel sometimes that stories disappear never to be seen or heard of again. I have recently withdrawn some stories that have been sitting with a magazine for ovef 2 years, so that I can sub elsewhere.

Thank you so much for this. Are we now going to lobby the magazines for implementation of this policy?

@ Sheelagh – It would indeed and I think they'd benefit too as we wouldn't need to keep asking if our stories were still under consideration.

@ Alex - Very helpful!

@ Chris – I've been doing the same thing. I don't like it but in some cases it seems that if we're ever to get a definite decision we're going to have to make it ourselves.

@ New Girl – I'd planned to do so if my idea received a lot of support from fellow womag writers. As only about a dozen people commented on the post where I raised the issue, I can't demonstrate that it has that.

Hopefully some of the editors might see the results of the Twitter poll and decide to update submission guidelines? That would be so helpful. Thanks for continuing to raise the issues that affect us as magazine fiction writers.

What a pity more writers don't make their comments here, I know a few who wholeheartedly agree with the idea of a fixed cut off point but for various reasons (mostly to do with a technology phobia) never make any comment. It's a real shame because the blog provides a great resource for bringing such a diverse & far flung group together & a platform to air our views

I agree there should be a cut-off time - I would suggest 6 months. Sorry I missed the vote! Linda

Thanks Patsy. I'm not on Twitter and new to this blog, but I've found so much helpful information here and I completely agree that a fixed cut off time would be brilliant. I never thought I'd be happy to receive rejections, but its good to know where you stand.

I also think a cut off point would be helpful. Like others have said, six months seems about right. Sometimes I wonder if my submissions are being received - or maybe getting lost in the abyss. I'm not the most tech savvy person.
