I'd love to hear your competition news.
This free competition has the best prize I've seen $100,000, plus publication. You need to write 3,000 on why the rule of law has become fragile and be willing to expand on that if you win.
Other publication opportunities
If you know of any markets, calls for submissions or other ways for people to get their work in front of readers, please share them. (Paid or unpaid.)
One I've found is Northern Gravy. They pay £100 for poems and short fiction accepted for publication. (UK and Irish authors only.)
Here's something I was sent by the commissioning editor at Improbable Press. Atlin says, "Improbable Press has a new call for submissions for our fiction anthology Anna Karenina Isn't Dead. It's a paying market, the deadline is January 31, 2023."

Thanks for all the good info as usual Patsy. Have a story in the People's Friend this week, my first so very happy with that. Had a semi-acceptance from Woman's Weekly recently so we'll see. Might try out some of the competitions, sound interesting
Well done, Sheelagh! You cracked the PF code! :) I managed to get selected in all three areas for September's Secret Attic. I also had my second shortlist within a couple of months for Writing Magazine. Awaiting Crowvus and The Faversham Literary Festival. I have sorted out what I am doing for the London Society - to be written. The Northern Gravy sounds interesting - thank you, as always, Patsy :)

Thank you very much for the latest news. Congratulations to Sheelagh and Marguerite. I'm working on a couple of stories for the womags and I'm entering a few competitions. I haven't had much success with those I've entered in the past, but it's still fun trying!
Thanks for all the info! I've had one short story and one serial instalment accepted by PF this month, bringing that serial to a close. I don't have a lot of fiction out there right now, as, up till the past couple of months, I've not written very much this year. Am on a bit more of a writing roll now, though.

I’ve not been doing any womag stories for the last few months and concentrating on competitions. I’m enjoying the freedom that’s giving me as well as different challenges.
I’m catching up here as was away last week and see that Alyson is short-listed for the Secret Life of Data competition that you listed Patsy. I am too! Accepted an invitation to the awards ceremony in Bristol, got everything sorted re travel and now there’s a rail strike!
Congratulations to everybody who's had wins and acceptances. Thank you for the competition info, Patsy. Northern Gravy looks interesting, although the standard looks pretty high. I might give it a go anyway. I guess living on the south coast doesn't rule me out.....

Congratulations @Fiona on the Secret Life of Data competition. Have you been inundated with emails from them as well? (I think they need to get their data sorted...) I declined the invitation to the awards. Just too far from Cumbria... I hope you can get there and it is a good evening.

Yes loads of emails from so many different people too! I’m in Birmingham and Bristol was on our list of places to visit anyway so hopefully will still get there.

I've had an acceptance from Woman's Weekly recently so I am delighted with that. I've also had a couple of readers letters published in Yours and Woman's Weekly
I'm hoping to get back to writing more regularly as it's been a bit sporadic for me recently

As always thanks so much for all the advice and information, Patsy, and well done on your book and all your acceptances. Well done to all the other Womagwriters on their successes, too. I've not been writing for a while now, for various reasons (one being buying the adjacent cottage to ours, which is a massve renovation project. What have we done!!!) Have been having quite a few PF sales over the months though. Have sold most of the stories I submitted to them during Lockdown, so I'm very pleased about that. Just heard from TAB about a story I submitted to them a long time ago, too. Does anyone know what sort of payment for stories with TAB is now? I vaguely remember you had something on this site Patsy, but I can't find it. many thanks and good wishes to all. Kate Hogan.
