Photos - and free writing competitions

We're currently in the Scottish Highlands (there's a cue for photos if I ever wrote one!) which means lots of walking, limited internet access and a fair bit of writing.  Sorry if the blog gets a bit patchy.

Free entry writing competition news

Thanks to Sharon Bee for passing on the link to this competition. They're asking for 600 on the best writing tip you've ever received. The prize is £100 or ta similar amount in other currencies.

And here's another found by Sharon. They want between 1500 and 3500 on the theme of anxiety. The prize is €50.

The Tom Gallon Prize offers £2,000 for the best story of up to 5,000 words.

The Daily Mail are offering £20,000 in their 'first novel' competition.

Do any of you produce short videos? If so, you may be interested in this competition with a £700 prize.

Other publication opportunities

Sharon also sent me this link for Mslexia who offer a wide variety of ways to get published with them.

My news

Just the usual, glamorous stuff involved in being a travelling writer.

Thanks for the competition info Patsy and for the great photos. I hope you had some tea and cake at the end of all your Highland trekking!

Scotland looks lovely! I hope the weather is kinder than it is this morning in Cumbria.
Thanks for all the competitions, Patsy and Sharon. The 'anxiety' competition looks interesting as does the Tom Gallon trust one - interesting that they accept previously published stories...
I am never quite sure with Mslexia whether you have to be a subscriber to enter their competitions. Does anyone know for sure or does it vary from entry to entry.
Thanks
Alyson

I've read all the submission pages carefully and it doesn't state that you have to be a Mslexia subscriber in order to sub pieces in.
I've subbed to the 'Pitch perfect' slot previously, and I'm not a subscriber.
I think they are a paying mag.

Thanks Patsy & Sharon for all the competition links. Patsy those photos are fabulous, I love Scotland, such beautiful late Autumn colours -lucky you. I have a few things on at moment so not doing much writing I'm afraid but maybe the shorter word ones might inspire me to devote some time to it again. Thanks again and enjoy your travels & writing opportunities

Thanks for all the info Patsy. Hope you are enjoying your break, I know it's been a wee bit wet, but the autumn colours are indeed gorgeous.

This looks like a fabulous trip, Patsy. Thanks for sharing your pictures. Can I please send belated congratulations to Sheelagh on having her first story published in The People's Friend. I have now read and very much enjoyed 'In The Spotlight' and look forward to reading lots more from her. Good luck to all those entering the competitions!

Ah thank you Eirin, much appreciated. I was delighted.& can I return the compliment and say how much I enjoyed reading 'Sing for your Supper' - lovely bit of humour in it too.

Ditto - I also read In the Spotlight - Lucy can come and help me with my wardrobe! Bet you're chuffed, Sheelagh :)

Thanks Marguerite, I really am. It's nice to get that particular monkey off my back (or words to that effect) but its even nicer to have contact with people who understand what it means when you do!! Now if you were just a bit nearer I'd invite you over for a bit of barmbrack (it being Halloween here) & to check out my own well organised minimalist wardrobe -ha ha).

I had to look up barmbrack - sounds lovely :) The good thing about writing fiction is we can be aspirational - doesn't mean we have to do it!

@ Fiona – Oh yes, plenty of tea and cake are being consumed!

@ Alyson – Mostly the weather hasn't been great, but we have the right clothing so aren't letting that deter us.

@ Sharon – Thanks for checking. I confess that due to very limited time online at the moment I'm just skimming stuff.

@ Sheelagh – The autumn colours have been terrific this year and have made some of the walks extra beautiful.

@ Kate – You're right about us having a good time.

@ Marguerite – That time I did! Let's just say it's a good thing I brought plenty of pairs of socks.

@ J - you're welcome.

@ Elizabeth – It's gone beyond 'a bit wet' now, but we're still enjoying it.

@ Marian – We are indeed.

@ Eirin – Congratulations and encouragement are always welcome here! As is an excuse to post more photos, which I'll be taking advantage of soon.

@ Maureen – Thank you!

Apologies everyone for the delay in responding to comments. I appreciate them as much as ever, but am finding it harder than anticipated to get enough time online to keep up with everything.
