Free to enter writing competitions
Thanks to the anonymous person who left a link to these two competitions, as a comment to a previous post. There's a science fiction short story competition, with a £50 prize, plus a flash fiction class. Both are to be on the theme of Peace.
The same person also supplied the link to this short story competition from Jerry Jazz. The prize is $150 plus publication.
The Happiful Poetry Prize isn't just a great name - it's a pretty good competition. They wants poems on the topic of mental health and wellbeing and offer £100 for the winner and book tokens for the runners up.

Many thanks for the info, Patsy.
I don't suppose anyone here has a paper copy of Yours with Mary berry on the cover? It's fairly recent.
If so, I'd be willing to pay you for it - and a bit extra, too. I was away from home when it came out (out of the country) and I planned to to buy it on my return, but then I fell ill.
My hubby tried to buy it but the new one had come out.
We've tried to buy a single back issue online, but it's really difficult. Many thanks!
Thank you for all the competition info Patsy.
Could the last photo showing a ruined wall nestling in the undergrowth, have been built as a castle folly?
I thought I had found your magazine Sharon, then realised it was a digital copy!
Dee
Thanks for the info Patsy and the photos. Sharon, I hope you are recovered after falling ill. Sorry I don't have a copy of Yours, the only suggestion I could offer if no one on here can help, is to keep an eye on ebay, magazines including recent ones often pop up there. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you get a copy one way or another.
Like Dee, I thought I'd spotted it, Sharon, but it was digital. I'll keep my eye out though. I can't believe it's not there somewhere (might have to wait a while for 'back' copies?) Thank you, Patsy for all the comps. I'm having a serious think about at least one of them. Another atmospheric photo prompt! What lurks in those ruins?
Thanks Patsy & all for competition info. I'm assuming the last photo with the window however the second photo is obviously of a tree lined carriageway up to a fine mansion or castle, I love those old roads.
And sorry Sharon I don't have that magazine I'm afraid but will keep my eye out at old magazines coming my way!
Thanks Patsy (and anonymous) for the comp info.
Sharon, if you are in or know anyone who’s in a local group - WI, church, craft, choir etc - it might be worth asking if anyone has the magazine, if you’ve not already tried that. I once got a missing copy through a friend of a friend that way. Fingers crossed!
Thanks everyone. I don't know anyone in the WI, choir, church or craft groups! However, I have managed to track down a copy that someone has.
Brilliant Sharon, I'll take my sis-in-law off the case so!
@ Sharon – Sorry, I can't help. If you're asking because you have something in that issue then congratulations.
@ Dee – It's sort of a folley. Parts of a real ruined chapel were relocated to build a picturesque ruin in the grounds of a big house.
@ Elizabeth – I'm surprised people sell quite recent mags on Ebay. Although of course (as we know with our stories) offering them and actually getting a sale aren't the same thing.
@ Marguerite – I reckon there could be something lurking suitable for every genre from romance to ghost stories, historical and contemporary.
@ Sheelagh – I can see why you thought of a carriageway, but what's not obvious from the photo is that the avenue is very short and surrounded by very deep and steep ditches.
@ Fiona – Your suggestions of groups to ask sounds exactly like the kind of people I imagine as subscribers to Yours, although I'm sure the reality includes a wider cross section of people.
@ Sharon – I'm glad you got hold of a copy.
I haven't got a copy so far! The person who said I could buy it has now changed their mind. Ah well, these things happen.
