Tuesday talk time

Hi!

This blog post is an experiment to see if people would like a chance to chat about writing here. It's partly prompted by the ending of The People's Friend writing hour on twitter, but is open to other writers too.

If you're new, then welcome! I'm Patsy. If you're not new, hello again!

Those who don't know how to comment on this blog can find all the details here. Whether or not you participate in chats on this group, you may like to join the Facebook writingchat group. It's a public group. To take part you'll need to request to join and say what you write - just a word or two to show you realise it's a writing group.

Fell free to chat about writing here, ask writing related questions, share info, encourage others etc. Please also make suggestions for how you'd like these chats to work, or share any other ideas of ways this blog can be useful. I'll ask a couple of questions to maybe get you started, but as I said at the start, this is an experiment. Depending on results, I'll carry on in this vague rambling fashion, make changes, or discontinue the whole thing and pretend it never happened!

Q1 What have you written recently?

Q2 Care to guess what's in the photo - it's nothing nasty, I promise.

Q3 Could you use the image as a story prompt?

Q4 Which is your favourite font?

I've just seen that someone is continuing the Writing Hour on Twitter, so probably my version isn't needed - let me know what you think.

Thought I had replied earlier! The first postPF writers hour this morning was a little chaotic due to leadership deficits, however I'm sure it will sort itself out. It was wonderful to keep the connection going though. Personally I'd hold off until that one settles down or do it a different day. Thanks as ever, Patsy for taking up the slack

Hi, Patsy. Like Sheelagh, I took part in this morning's first 'free range' Writers Hour on X - it felt a bit like being at school when the teacher leaves the room! Lovely to maintain the contact with other writers/readers, though, and with luck it will settle into a more organised thing. I'd definitely still be up for conversations here, too - with writing being such a solitary pursuit, it's good to share experiences with like-minded folk. I thought your photo looked like the beaks of hungry giant nestlings, reaching up so that Mum and Dad could drop food into them. My favourite font (my only font, really) is Times New Roman.

Started to comment but forgot the four questions. 1.Short story for TPF. 2. Look like mushrooms.3. Could use as a prompt for dark and gloomy or light and fairy with the little people. 4. I use Times Roman. I came off twitter ages ago so no longer participated in TPF Writing Hour. Thanks for doing this Patsy :)

I'm not a twitterer or x-er but will go with the flow... whatever. I default to Times New Roman and get quite irritated with the Calibri that my email delivers. I think it's a tree trunk that's not sure whether or not it's completely dead and a few fruiting bodies are emerging. Some of your photos do lend themselves to prompts, Patsy - all atmospheric and eerie! I'm trying to send a whole batch of stories I've accumulated to magazines and competitions - one at a time (one each day - keeps my head clear) and come across some surprises (Did I write this?) whch always gives me a laugh.

Hi I'm Sharon I usually write stories for the womag market and comp entries. I also pen rhyming poems. I'm not really keen on pic prompts and my favourite font is Georgia. I left twitter years ago, so I haven't been participating in TPF twitter hour, although I used to. I'd be happy to continue chatting about writing on here but bear in mind that I haven't had a story accepted by TPF.

@ Sheelagh - Now I know someone is still doing something on Twitter, I'll make sure I don't conflict with that. I think I'll try Thursday next week and see how that goes.

@ Eirin – I hadn't thought of beaks, but now you mention it...

@ Elizabeth – Answering the questions isn't vital. I just thought that might be helpful to those used to TPF's writing hour.

@ Marguerite – I have stories I'm sure I didn't write until I get about halfway through them.

@ Sharon – I've been gone from Twitter for quite a while too. Any chats on here are for everyone and not connected with any particular magazine – although it's fine to discuss any of them.

My favourite font is Times New Roman - not that I've got anything against most of the others. If I can read it, then I consider it a good font.

Is the photo of some strange fungus? I can see a science fiction story in it.
