Gosh, it's warm, isn't it? I'm so lucky to have the sea so close. We've walked down and chucked ourselves in several times this week.
I'll sprinkle this posts with refreshing glimpses of cool water for anyone who might benefit. (Not all taken on my daily walks!)
A quick reminder - this is how this blog works.
Thanks to Alyson for sending the link to this haiku competition. The theme is sight, and the prize is $25 sent via Paypal.
Call for Submissions
Thanks to whoever told me about Poplar and Prose. Was it Fiona? Sorry, my memory isn't great even when it isn't melting! I got in touch, and was sent this – I’m looking for 100-word stories that celebrate summer — inspired by nature and rich in imagery. This could include stories about family, relationships, vacations, and summer memories to give you a few examples of what I’m especially interested in.

This is for Poplar & Prose, a literary lifestyle brand, featuring pieces that make the ordinary moments feel a little richer, inspired by good books and the outdoors. I’d love to highlight one or two amazing writers in August through a featured Journal post.
Authors always retain the rights to their work. I simply ask for non-exclusive permission to publish the piece on Poplar & Prose. Contributors are also free to publish elsewhere.
While I’m only able to provide a token .03/word payment, contributors will be credited alongside a short author blurb and linked work/socials if desired.
To get a feel for the brand, you can visit PoplarandProse.com.
By July 15 8pm EST, submissions, along with a 2–3 sentence bio, can be sent to: contact@poplarandprose.com
Thanks so much for your interest, and I look forward to reading about your summers!
Womag news
There will be July and August issues of TABFF. I don't know about after that.

Gosh those cooling pictures look great Patsy.
I’m not sure whether I sent you that info either!
Thanks to whoever shared the Welkin Genre Prize info. I’ve just been working on my two entries before heading along to run a children’s book swap at our summer festival. So glad I’m in the church and not on a stall outside.
Happy writing everyone!
Thanks Patsy. I'll be giving any project that wants literary fiction a miss. I just can't write it. The signs don't look good for FF.
I have a feeling that FF will end completely and Bauer will make the announcement in around a month's time. It'll be sad if this happens, but we can't do anything about it.
If we discover that this is the case, I'll have a think about starting a novel, although I don't feel this will prove to be a successful project. Sorry to be so gloomy!
Thanks Patsy and everybody for all the info. I love checking in every week and, even if I don't always find any opportunities that are right for me, it is good to know what's happening out there in our writing world. Not much to report. I've been getting some decorating done... yes in this heat...and so not had much time or space for writing. Although I did have the customary rejection from TPF within 24 hours. However, I am learning from what I think I may have done wrong. This time I think I messed up the point of view aspect. Anyway I'm a tennis fan so there won't be too much writing for the next couple of weeks while Wimbledon is on. Hopefully I shall return to my desk refreshed and ready to go after that. Enjoy the warm weather everyone.
Thank you everyone for the submission/competition news.
Sue, I agree, I like the variety and ‘having a go’, it may not be brilliant (it may not even be submitted😊) but I enjoy the challenge.
