Some things to try...

I'm sure you don't need me to tell you the photo is a metaphor for taking steps to... um... something to do with writing.

Free to enter writing competition

Thanks to Marguerite for the link to Toasted Cheese's latest winter competition. They want a horror story of 1,000 to 5,000 words. First prize is an Amazon voucher of at least $20.

Other opportunities

The Hudson Review is currently open to fiction submissions of up to 10,000 words. I believe they're a paying market, but couldn't find pay rates on the site. Note - this is NOT a womag type market. They have some samples of previously published work you can read to try to gauge the style they like.

Here's an opportunity for self published and aspiring authors. You need to describe your intended projects in up to 250 words, to apply for a $1,000 grant (although this figure could rise).

My news

Another of my ebooks is currently on offer for 99p / 99c.

Many thanks Patsy. A follow up from my poems at TPF... New lady Lucy has (hopefully) sorted it! Crowvus haven't opened their window for the next hooded journal yet so I don't know what their themes is. Can anyone shed any light?

Thank you, @Patsy.
Good news, @Sharon. Glad it's sorted.
Good news for me last week. WW took a story that has been 'held on file' for at least a year... don't give up hope :)

Somehow the words Toasted Cheese and horror just don't go together...

The challenges Toasted Cheese are setting are getting increasingly... bizarre. I think it's the whole cosy winter thing, Alex.😉 It was alright when they were pretty straightforward. Sharon, keeping my eye out for Crowvus as well. The Memoir one has only recently been published. Hey, Alyson! That's great! So my April '24 isn't a complete write-off then! Actually, Patsy, those steps look really pretty 🙂. Thank you for the opportunities. I've yet to fully test myself out on a run of anywhere near 10k words that make sense. Perhaps now's the time?

Thank you Patsy and Marguerite, and congratulations Alyson.
Marguerite – I have just read your wonderful memoir piece! It reminded me of the time when my father was a set builder for an amateur theatre. There was a bedroom scene and the bed started to collapse, my father got under the bed and supported the collapsing leg, until the interval… happy days. 😊
