A bit on blogging

I'm thinking of somehow combining this blog with my other one (which is a more general writing blog and regularly includes links to free to enter writing competitions). Although I'd still have the same amount of research to do, I think it would be slightly easier and less time consuming to only have the one blog.

What do you think about that? Any suggestions for the best way to go about it? Or maybe I should just stop one of them?

Do you have a blog yourself – writing related or otherwise? If you put a link and brief description in your comments, I'll add writing related ones to this post, so people can easily take a look.

Fellow blogger Paula Readman recently invited me over to her blog for a virtual tea and chat.

If you're interested in the subject of blogging, you may like to join #WritingChat on Wednesday evening. This is a Twitter event held 8-9 (UK time) every Wednesday evening. There's always a theme – this week it's Does blogging still work for writers? Participants are encouraged to suggest topics for further discussions.

To take part, just tweet at the appropriate time, using the #WritingChat hashtag. (Without that, we'll probably miss your comments.)

Reader's blogs (copied from the comments, so they don't get missed.)

Sharon Boothroyd – I don't have a blog, but I do have a a website.
I'm looking for new members to join our small group of published womag writers. We test our work on each other before we sub it out, via email.
It's free to join, but you must have had at least 1 story published. Please visit wwww.sbee.orgfree.com for details.

Lyn Love – I do blog at https://lynnmlovewords.wordpress.com/
Mainly flash fiction and publication news. I do guest posts too.

Sally Jenkins –

If you combined this one with your 'free to enter comps' blog, that would be good, as womag writers like to enter comps too.

If it's easier for you to combine the blogs then you should, but both are very valuable for writers. I've entered several of the comps and, as you know, won one. The womag one is hugely helpful too. You have my blog listed already, thanks. I think blogs do have a place for writers although I'm an irregular blogger, with maybe on post a month. I generally only post when I have something to say! One day maybe I'll have a book to promote! Maybe.

I find both your blogs interesting, thought-provoking and supportive in different ways, but I can see why you would want to put them in one - and that would be fine too. In fact, running two blogs must be very time-consuming. I too have won one of the free competitions but equally, I am trying to break in to Womagland :)

If it's easier on you, combine them. I know I barely have enough to say on one blog, let alone two.

I really like this blog and find it extremely useful, but I occasionally dip into your other one too. I can fully understand your wanting to combine them. I think combining them into one blog will work well.

I have a blog, but not a writing one - I blog about second-hand bookshops in and around Melbourne. Or I did when I could still get out and about!

I say combine them, why not! I find your blogs really useful and my ‘go to’ for info about writing.

I follow both your blogs, Patsy, and would like to see both continue although I don't mind in what form. It is so useful having all the womag info in one place and the comments from people and blogs such as writing pocket novels and long reads are things I come back to again and again...
Thanks for keeping them going!

If it’s less work for you, then got to be worth it. I find both so helpful and informative - love to check out womag info on here and have entered a number of the comps you posted on your other blog. I don’t have a blog but my nephew is helping me put together a website

Combining your two blogs sounds a great idea and if it is less work too, that's the icing on the cake! Both your blogs are brilliant.

Yes, I do have a wordpress blog, called 'Sing with the Choir'. https://jennyworstall.wordpress.com/

My last post actually mentioned your blog, as I had found a writing opportunity through it. Thanks again, Patsy!

Yes, I agree with the previous comments. Both blogs are extremely useful, and it makes perfect sense to combine them. Thanks for asking for our views on this.

Coincidentally my blog is due for renewal at end of this month and I have decided not to renew. I recognise I wasn't using it to full advantage or devoting enough time to making it work for me, therefore I do appreciate the time both your blogs must take away from your writing time Patsy and I would suggest combining them if that is at all possible. Like others who have commented you do provide a valuable service please don't stop!!

Best wishes and grateful thanks.

ps
I hope to catch up on comments from chat later can't make it in real time these days/nights

I follow both your blogs but love Womagwriter the most - it's the absolute go to place for anything related to our corner of publishing. Combining both is a great idea- you just have themed days for the content you'd usually have on the other blog. I do blog at https://lynnmlovewords.wordpress.com/
Mainly flash fiction and publication news. I do guest posts too.

Hi Patsy - thanks for your continued work on this blog despite the shrinking markets. I too think that your two blogs can be combined. Most Womag writers enter the odd competition as well. I think the important thing is to maintain all the contributors guidelines that you've built up on the Womag blog - they are invaluable.
I blog at https://sally-jenkins.com/blog/.
I recently made contact with a new local publication and was able to point the editor to my blog as a 'shop window' for my writing style. So although blogging seems to be a dying occupation it does still have its uses.

I LOVE the Womagwriter Blog. When there's a lively discussion up and running, I check it an insane number of times. I don't see any problem with combining it and your Words About Writing Blog, from a user's point of view, if this makes both projects more manageable for you, Patsy - whatever it takes to keep it going whilst protecting your creative writing time as much as possible. Best wishes from Eirin Thompson

both the blogs you run are great, Patsy. I think combining them would certainly be fine by me. Good wishes. Kate Hogan.
