Do you have any womag news?

Are you researching, writing, subbing? Had any acceptances or rejections? Any other news?

Feel free to use the as a picture prompt. If you'd like other writing prompts, short exercises and story/scene suggestions then you might find this book useful.

I'd love to hear your competition news.

Have you entered any writing comps? Had any luck? Heard about interesting contests? Got any tips to pass on? (Although I only feature free to enter competitions in my posts it's fine to share news about other competitions too.)

I did have my novel shortlisted in an Australian Manuscript Development prize but alas no further. But at least it gave me faith that my work was worthy. Am awaiting news of another two flash fiction / short story comps.

I'm writing regularly these days and making progress on my manuscript. I think I will actually finish my first draft this year and hopefully revise it once too.

I had my first acceptance from Yours Fiction Special (May edition). I am pleased because I like Yours magazine and have had a few rejections in the past. Next on my hit list: The People's Friend! Tough nut to crack for me...

Congrats Hazel - I’m joining you in Yours fiction May edition too and had my first acceptance by people’s friend in December so don’t give up hope, oh and I have been chosen to be their writer of the week too - exciting times

Brilliant Charlie! Will look out for your story in Yours and you have given me hope re People's Friend!

I m still waiting to hear from PF about a few stories I have in with them. I was writer of the week for them in January. Off work atm after having an operation to have my eye removed, so plenty if time on my hands for writing. I ve entered a few short /flash fiction competitions and it's been nice to try my hand at different styles. Thanks for all the comp tips Patsy, and good luck to everyone writing atm!

@Hazel and @Charlie, joining you in the May Yours fiction special. I also have a story in the regular Yours in April - a first for me - and all thanks to the information on this blog. Thanks Patsy.

Didn't win the LoveReading Very Short Story comp, having been shortlisted, but heard today that I'm through to the second round of the Penguin Christmas Love Story Competition. Hurrah!

This looks like a competition worth entering, and it's for a good cause: https://www.bibliophone.com/

My next book was accepted and I'm waiting for edits.
IWSG announces its next contest the beginning of May. Already lining up judges.

Some great news there! Congratulations to all on your successes.

Congrats to everyone above on their successes.

I have no acceptances to report this time. I have a heap of submissions still with The People's Friend, dating back to December 2019. I had a lot of stories and a serial accepted by them during 2020, though, so I can't complain at everything suddenly going quiet. It's mainly my long crime reads that I haven't heard back about.

I only submit to PF and am wondering whether I should start to think about trying a second market, like Yours. Many magazines aren't open to new-to-them writers, so I think Yours is about the only other magazine I can try.

Nothing from me at the moment but pleased to hear of everyone's successes :)

Great to hear all the good news people have here. I don't have anything to add right now but I'm thankful for the links you constantly provide.

Great to hear so much good news, congratulations to all. I've nothing to add at present some subs still out there and almost finished first draft of longer novel then back to the Pocket Novels. Chris C I hope you are on the road to recovery after your op.

Well done to everyone, and wishing Chris C a speedy recovery and good news on the writing front. I've had a recent sale from My Weekly, and two possibles, and a rejection from PF. Good wishes to everyone Kate Hogan.

Congratulations to everybody's who's doing well, and also good wishes to Chris C. Everything is still very quiet for me. I've got 2 stories with Yours (since Feb 2020 and June 2020) and two with TPF (both since Nov 2019!). I've done some gentle chasing (never sure if that's a good idea), but heard nothing back. I'm not working on a story at the moment - finding it difficult to get down to anything. In the meantime, I'm having fun doing the Secret Attic weekly write from time to time - just a good way to keep writing.

@ Lindsay – congratulations! It wouldn't have got that far if it wasn't good.

@ Natalie – Well done for making good progress.

@ Hazel – Congratulations! I think they're all tough nuts to crack now, as there is so much competition. Doesn't mean it can't be done though.

@ ChrisC – Sorry about the op. Very best wishes for your recovery.

@ Alyson – Congratulations on getting into Yours Fiction.

@ Amanda – Well done for both competitions and thanks for telling me about the Bibliophone one. I'll take a look.

@ Fay – It's nice to hear so much good news, isn't it?

@ Alex – well done!

@ Eirin – It is good to learn about so many people doing well.

@ Liz – I think it's a good idea to try another market. A story that's not quite right for one could be perfect for another.

@ Marguerite – Hope there's success for you soon.

@ Nick – Maybe you'll get your own good news as a result of one of them?

@ Elizabeth – sounds like you're busy. Good luck with your different projects.

@ Kate – congratulations for the sale and the possibles.

@ New Girl – I'm never sure about nudging either. I don't want to give editors extra work checking and replying if it's in the system and they'll get to it, but neither do I want it to never find a home because it didn't arrive, or was accidentally lost somehow. Both things do happen now and then.

Good evening, everyone.

Just discovered this brilliant website courtesy of Writing Magazine. I am so excited to be here!

Congratulations to @hazel, @Charlie and @ados123 for being accepted by Yours Fiction magazine. My story will appear in the May edition too and I can't wait!

Well done to everyone else who has recieved an acceptance. I would also like to say well done to everyone who keeps writing and keeps entering competitions. Every piece you write is worthwhile as it builds your skillset but most importantly, it is worthwhile if you enjoyed writing it!

@chrisc, I wish you a speedy recovery and happy writing x
