Happy hallowe'en!

How do you feel about writing and reading spooky, ghostly or horror stories? I'm on the wimpy side and prefer the cosy kind.

My news

If you like reading ghost stories which aren't too scary, you may enjoy one of my four collections of slightly spooky stories. Slightly Spooky Stories II is currently reduced to 99p / 99c.

Free entry competition news

Thanks to Alyson for the link to this competition. There's £500 on offer for a memory recounted in 400 words. These don't need to have a hallowe'en theme.

I love reading them, and as soon as my husband goes away anywhere I find myself watching real ghost hunter programmes on TV. But I can't seem to write them.

And then, of course, after watching these programmes, it gets dark and I have to go to bed on my own in a large, very old house...

I don't read much horror. Don't watch much anymore either, but that's because most horror films are awful.

I've never liked reading or watching anything horror so never wanted to write these types of stories. I'd get nightmares for months, a wimp!

I love them - reading and writing - and watching! But they're not very Womag friendly!

I'm not very keen on reading them and so I know for sure I'd be no good at writing one myself!

I love writing ghost stories and been lucky enough to have had a few published in Yours fiction mag (only one that seems to publish them sadly)

Yes I am a bit on the wimpy side myself, I'd never read or watch horror movies. I only like the kind of mildly scary stories my father use to specialise in when we gathered around the fire during power strikes in the seventies.
I'd love to read your stories Patsy they sound perfect, now do I have to have a kindle to order them or can I have them delivered to my laptop for reading do you know??

I'm not a lover of ghost stories or films, watched and read too much scary stuff in my youth. I did write a humorous ghost story, which the old Woman's Weekly bought and published. That was fun to write and not really scary at tall. Maybe I'll have another go at writing one, it might help with the writer's block I seem to be suffering from! Good wishes Kate Hogan.

Sheelagh, I am not a smartphone sort of person but do have a kindle. I can, however, read a kindle book on my downloaded 'app' on my laptop. You have to download the kindle software, in other words. All my books to seem to 'go there' automatically :) Thank you, Patsy - I have already enjoyed some of your spookies.

Thanks Marguerite that's great, I'll have a go at that so.

I hate reading spooky stories/watching spooky films, but I've nevertheless written a few mildly supernatural stories. It's quite fun! Two have been accepted by Spirit and Destiny (one published, the other scheduled) and the other two are out there awaiting responses - fingers crossed!

Congrats new girl on the block, I love writing these types of stories do you happen to have the email address/info on submitting to them?

@charlie Submissions for Spirit and Destiny should be sent to tracie.couper@bauermedia.co.uk
but for the past year or so Tracie hasn't been taking submissions - she's snowed under - but worth getting in touch to see if she's taking them again. They do take all rights though. Good luck!
