Womag updates

I'm still on my travels, so not always finding it easy to keep up with news. Luckily I have friends who help to keep me informed. Thank you to those who have passed on the following bits of womag news ...

Those writers on the Take a Break closed list have been sent news contracts, offering a much lower rate of pay, but no longer requiring all rights.

The fiction editor at YOU is still reading and buying stories which were sent prior to them temporarily closing to new submissions.

The current word count requirements for Yours fiction are –  450, 800,1400, 2,000, and 2,700

The word count range for Seven Days is confirmed as 500 - 1,200 (not 500 - 1,000 as stated in one issue.)

Thank you for the updates Patsy. I had an acceptance from YOU this week, a story I submitted in April 2021.

I'd like to know if 7days are sending out rejects, or is it just after 3 months it's a no?

Sharon - I did email to ask this but I didn't get a reply.

The pay rate changes at Fiction Feast have ended my writing career. Was hanging on by a thread already. Will now only be sending out work already completed. I'm done.

Thanks for the info, Patsy. TAB pay rates had gradually reduced before I stopped submitting to them because ofthe Rights issue. There was a time when a story could fetch £400 pounds or more, then they dropped it to a maximum of £250 I think. What sort of rates are they offering now? Great pics! Good wishes. Kate hogan

For those who don't know how much the TAB FF reduction was -

Old Rates

1 Page (approx. 700 words) £200
2 Page (approx. 1,200 words) £225
3-4 Pages (approx. 2,000 words) £250 to £275

New Rates

1 page £75
2 pages £100
3-4 £125 to £150

Thanks Anon. I wonder is it because lots of people stopped buying the mag and ended their subscriptions because of the Rights issue? Such a shame. Good wishes Kate Hogan

Thanks for your comments everyone. Sorry that travelling is making it difficult to keep up with replies.

@ Sharon – I've not heard of anyone getting rejections from them.

@ Kate – I can't imagine that the rights issue made much difference to subscription rates. A few writers cared about that, but many others weren't bothered and most non writers wouldn't have been aware of it and probably wouldn't have taken any interest if they had.
