Quick update on YOURS

It's been pointed out to me that the YOURS website still shows fiction submission guidelines, and these appear to have been updated within the last few days. I have checked in case either the information I posted recently was incorrect, or there had been a change of policy. Unfortunately that's not the case.

Thank you for keeping us apprised, Patsy. It's quite hard keeping up with all the changes now... happening so fast. Yes, just seen the date of the guidelines and looks fine :( hey ho...

Thanks for keeping us up to date on this, Patsy. I’ve just tried looking up their updated fiction guidelines, but only found a 404 message saying that the page no longer exists. Very sad what’s happening.

That's rather ominous as the page was there a couple of days ago. I hope it doesn't mean that they will stop taking new fiction completely :(
I've loved being published in Yours and Yours Fiction. Thanks for keeping us updated, Patsy.

Thank you, Patsy, for checking that for us. It's all such a shame.

Thanks for confirming, Patsy.
There seems to be a worrying trend in Womag world.

I’ve been keeping an eye out for another writing competition in Best but haven’t seen anything since the Summer Fiction Comp in an April edition. Don’t know if this is usual or not.

I thought Best had launched a Halloween comp? Maybe I missed it.
They usually launch a Xmas comp in October.
By the way, in the current issue of monthly Platinum magazine (published by Kelsey media)they are actively inviting feedback from readers on their letters page.
One reader has a letter published, saying she'd like to see puzzles.
The ed has replied, saying that if they receive enough requests for puzzles, they'll consider including them in the magazine.
It'd be great if we all emailed in and said we wanted to see a regular fiction slot! Oh, and please don't pick novelist's stories for every issue!
I just thought I'd let people know, in case they'd like to participate.
If there's a clear demand for fiction, the ed may consider including it.

@Patsy Thanks for checking - it's much appreciated.

@Lexi "I hope it doesn't mean that they will stop taking new fiction completely :(" - I'm confused, as I thought the whole issue was that Yours will no longer be accepting new fiction, as they will only be featuring stories that have previously been published? As others have said, it's hard to keep up, as there have been so many changes and developments of late - sadly not positive ones.

@Sharon Boothroyd - I think that's a fab idea:) I haven't heard of Platinum Magazine but will check it out. I love the idea of us collectively contributing to a new market opening up.

I was very sorry to read about yours and wouldn't have known without the blog. Marion was always efficient and pleasant, and the variety of stories selected added to the quality of the magazine.

I've just had it confirmed from Sharon Reid today (10/ 10/2023) that the Yours fiction special is NOT going to continue.
Sadly, it's now ceased production.
The last issue was the August one.
So that's another market gone!

Thank you for all the updates Patsy and Sharon, it's so sad to see another fiction magazine close.

@Sharon Sad news indeed. I did however take your suggestion on board and sent an email to Platinium requesting the inclusion of a fiction section.

Many thanks sheelagh. Even if we all left a comment on their Facebook page, saying we'd like to see fiction, then it will help to get the message across.

@Sharon, I sort of expected this when when they stated there would be no Christmas edition. Such a sad loss. Perhaps their sales weren’t good enough? I’m a driver for Royal Mail and one of the post offices that I collect from still has copies of their August edition on display in their magazine section.
