Loads of free entry competitions

Sorry, I've been so busy writing and editing as well as with lots of non writing stuff that I'm not keeping up with the blog very well. I'll try to get more organised, but in the meantime, here's a link to loads of free entry writing competitions which close this month. Thanks to my friend Sheila for making me aware of this site.

Here's a list of calls for submissions, kindly supplied by Marguerite.

On the contrary I think you do amazingly well to keep all the balls in the air Patsy, don't know how you do it but so glad that you do.
Also its heartening to see just how many free competitions are out there even if lots of them are not for me.

Yes I agree. Thank you Patsy for all the information and resources that you provide.

I would like to add my thanks to you, Patsy, for this blog, which is always full of interesting stuff from you and your contributors. I have just entered my first ever writing competition, which I learned about on this blog, and then followed up - I might not get anywhere, but I enjoyed the challenge of entering. I also enjoyed your recent newsletter, with some stunning photographs. Plus, Sharon B - did I see a letter from you in the Radio Times? If so, I'll be taking a look at the crime drama you recommend. Thanks for such a list of further competitions, Patsy - it looks like there's something there for everybody. Happy writing, all!

Thank you, Patsy. Not sure where I originally saw this, but ages ago I subscribed to the newsletter Publishing and other forms of insanity (same Erica Verillo) https://publishedtodeath.blogspot.com/p/calls-for-submissions.html
So many avenues it's overwhelming! Even though many are for very niche areas/don't apply in specific countries, etc..., you can never have enough avenues! I now need to explore more as many have closed up this year.
Good luck with the final editing, Patsy!

@ Sheelagh – Yes, it's good to see how many there are. The main reason I just posted the link instead of doing my usual thing of sifting through to pick out what I thought would appeal to readers of this blog, was to save time, but I thought people might be interested to see the range.

Also as I don't know where everyone is from, or what everyone writes, I might miss something perfect for one of my followers.

@ Sue – I enjoy doing it, and interacting with my fellow writers here. Only trouble is, there's lots of other stuff I want to do, and limited hours per day.

@ Eirin – Yes, the blog is made much better by everyone who supplies info and/or leaves comments.

Good luck with your first competition! I find entering can be worthwhile, even if we don't come anywhere, espeially if it motivated us to write something we wouldn't otherwise have attempted.

@ Marguerite - Thanks for that link. I'll add it to the post to make it easier for others to take a look. The niche opportunities can be good, if we're able to submit something which fits the requirements - and maybe they'll tempt us into diversifying?

I add my thanks Patsy, and to Marguerite for the links.
Hoping to hear news of Elva from Eirin...
Good luck with all the competitions everyone!

HB - thank you so much for asking. Elva has been with us since Friday morning and she is an absolute dream. She is polite and friendly to everyone, but already has her close bond with my husband, after an intense two-weeks residential. We took her to a music recital yesterday evening, and the music was much more dynamic - and louder! - than we had anticipated, but Elva took it in her stride, sleeping through most of it and seemingly not even startled by vigorous applause. I love the idea of visiting a guide dog situation in a story, but would be worried about misrepresenting this wonderful organisation in any way, so maybe just a little cameo part for a guide dog in a wider story?

Brilliant Eirin, I can see her becoming to a certain writer what Nigel & Nellie were to a certain gardener!

Elva sounds amazing. I expect a few muddy paws and waggy tails will be featuring in your stories!

You do an amazing job with this blog, Patsy. When I first started submitting stories, it was such a help and support to me. The advice from other writers has been invaluable, too. Thank you!
