Not the Best News

Sadly Best magazine have again dropped their fiction slot. (The associate editor who dealt with fiction has promised to let me know if this changes and I'll pass on any news I get.)

Presumably they don't think the readers are interested in fiction. If that's not the case we need to let the editors know. We can do that by buying magazines which carry fiction and by contacting them to praise any stories we particularly enjoy, or any increase in the amount of fiction carried and to protest if fiction is reduced or dropped.

Hi Patsy, that's good to know, if not good news. We should also encourage our non-writerly friends to comment when the fiction is dropped. I think it is such a shame that magazines are going down this route.

Even Woman's Own is a celeb mag these days!

Thanks for the info Patsy. Great idea to bombard them with our disappointment and super-support those mags who keep on with the stories we love.

@everyone - sorry not to be passing on better news.

@Lizy - I suppose some people must be interested in that sort of thing!

Sad that they didn't persist, but at least writers now know, and wasted time and postage submitting to them. :(

Hi Patsy
Thanks for letting us know about this. I used to love the twist in tale fiction in Bella and That's life! mags, I was so disappointed when they drooped their fiction slots and instead filled them full of down- market 'celebrity' drivel. That's when I stopped buying them I'm afraid. We need to bring back fiction in mags, not get rid of it.

Oooh Patsy, I've never heard of a magazine called 'Sadly Best'.

Hopefully Best will change their minds soon and pick it up again.

Sadly, if readers don't notice or complain they're unlikely to pick it up again :o( It's a real shame. I did have a story accepted for their Summer Special, but haven't seen it in the shops yet, or heard anything more about it.
