Your Go

Here's another monthly random photo for use as a story prompt.

It's also your chance to share success (or otherwise) ask questions*, report any womag news**, tips, advice you may have, or make womag related comments or observations. (If you have news or a question relating to a particular magazine, it's also fine to add it as a comment to the latest post for that magazine.)

* If you can answer these, please do.

** Or you can email me with the details, particularly if you feel it deserves its own post, or you'd like to create a guest post on the subject.

Is anyone trying anything new? Targetting a different magazine, attempting a serial, or story in a genre they don't generally write?

Lovely pic, Patsy - gives me an idea or two!
I was wondering if anyone heard back from Spirit & Destiny magazine as everything seems to have gone rather quiet.

@ Carrie, I've had one response saying no – for a story sent in March. A previous one hasn't yet got a reply, which I'm trying to hope is a good sign!

I've noticed my PF editor is also looking at poetry for the magazine. I've no idea if this is an innovation... or something perfectly usual, in these multi-tasking times. But rather selfishly, I hoped it wouldn't take her mind off the fiction for too long!

Hi, Penny. Don't worry - the poetry has always been part of the fiction team's remit, with one member responsible. It was Alison, who retired, and now it's Lucy. The only difference now is that Lucy decided to be more proactive in encouraging new poetry contributors to join us. - Shirley

Hello, I've had a decline for a second story I sent to PF in January, but the first which I sent three weeks earlier I haven't heard either way on. Would you re-send the first story in case it was lost in the post or wait longer? Any advice welcome!

Are there any guidelines for poetry for People's Friend, please?

@ Shirley, thanks for explaining the situation about the poetry editor. It's good to hear of someone actively encouraging poetry.

@ Alexis,The guidelines say it can take 16 weeks for a reply, so I'd be inclined to wait a little longer. Sometimes stories are read out of order e.g. if editors are looking for something in a particular length. The delay in hearing about the earlier submission could be a good sign, meaning it has been passed on for further consideration.

@ New girl, they're here – https://www.thepeoplesfriend.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/48/2017/04/POETRY-Guidelines.pdf
