Would you like your story published in Best magazine?

Thanks to Christine Sutton for sending me this extract from a recent issue of Best magazine. Sadly they've not reinstated their regular fiction slot, but they are running another competition for a short story to be published in the magazine. The prize is £500.
If you click on the image, you should be able to get an unobstructed view of all the t&cs.

Thank you for sharing this Patsy, a rare wee opportunity for us in a shrinking market.

Open to writers in the UK only. Sad...

Thanks for this. As Elizabeth says, in such a shrinking market we need to take advantage of every opportunity!

Thanks, Christine and Patsy for sharing this opportunity. Am I right in thinking the T&Cs are not asking for previously unpublished stories, or copyright? Worth a shot. Good luck to all of us who enter! Good wishes Kate Hogan

Unfortunately I'm not eligible to enter but good luck to those of you who do. Hope one of this blog's readers wins!

Thanks patsy, I’m going to give it a go.

I'll go for it too. As Elizabeth says - all too few opportunities remain! Good luck everyone!

Kate, whilst I could see no mention in the comp's T&Cs that stories need to be unpublished, I personally wouldn't send anything that had already been seen in another mag, or placed in another comp. The contracts are all so complicated these days, with various restrictions on future use, why risk it? But if you have a story that you love and really want to enter, perhaps you could email them before submitting, just to check.

Thanks, Chris. Probably best to play safe. Good wishes and good luck if you're entering. Thanks for sharing, too.

I have a question. Does anybody know what the deal is with Woman's Weekly for new writers at the moment? Do we still have to send our submissions via post and just wait until the office re-opens for them to be read? Thanks in advance to anybody who can tell me the answer.

I'm not sure, 'new girl'. I contacted Emma yesterday to query when a story was going to appear and she got straight back to me about it, so she is definitely picking up her emails. Maybe you should email and ask her what the situation is right now.

Thanks, Chris. Would you mind giving me Emma's email address please. I've not been in contact with her before, so don't know her details. Thanks again.

It is Emma Shacklock, Fiction and Life Style Editor, Woman's Weekly, and her email is Emma.Shacklock@ti-media.com

Good luck.

Thanks for this, Patsy - at least it's another outlet and they may decide to do a regular story slot again...
