Do you have any womag news?
Any market news? Are you researching, writing, subbing? Had any acceptances or rejections? Still waiting to hear back on outstanding submissions? Do you have a question? Can you offer tips or encouragement to other writers?
Any other writing related news, questions and comments are also welcome.
Feel free to use these photos as picture prompts. If you'd like written writing prompts, short exercises and story/scene suggestions then you might find this book useful.
Don't forget to check the submissions database for details of which magazines publish fiction under what terms, and how to submit.
Thanks to everyone for your comments. As well as allowing us all to share information, help and encourage each other, comments also show editors, competition organisers and others that the blog is read and will therefore be more likely to provide information for me to share with you.
(Edited to say - there will be one more post before Christmas, then I'll be taking a break until sometime in the New Year year.)

Fab photos Patsy. Thanks for all the information & updates not just now but throughout the year & for keeping it going through personal adversity. I have been busy last few weeks with other work so haven't really been able to get much writing done. I've had a couple of acceptances recently which I'm delighted about, one was from Ireland's Own for a memory piece which I had quite forgotten about so I was thrilled with that, not least because it was a good personal memory.
Anyway enjoy Christmas & the New Year & hope all the issues resolve themselves in a good way. Best wishes to everyone on the blog especially the regulars whose trials & tribulations I've really come to look forward to reading about over the years as we soldier along together but apart in the world of writing! Have a good one.
In case there's a seasonal break coming up for this blog, I'd like to wish Patsy and everyone here a very merry Christmas and a Happy new year.
I hope you all enjoy a relaxing, peaceful and happy time.
Many thanks to Patsy and everyone for the success stories, updates, info and comp news.
Let's hope that all of our writing dreams come true in 2024!
I had an acceptance from The People’s Friend, which thrilled me. I also had a rejection at the same time and, thinking
Thank you to everyone on here for the advice and support over the year and best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
Sorry lost some of my previous message.I meant to say, I could quite understand the rejection!
Thanks, Patsy, for all your hard work on the blog this year.
This week, I managed a WHOLE 48 hours before the usual rejection from TPF arrived. But I also had an acceptance from Andrew Shaw, which cheered me up!
Merry Christmas to everyone, and happy writing for 2024.
HB
A whole 48 hours, HB! Perhaps that should be my next goal with them: do it in stages ;) And congrats on the WW acceptance.
Merry Christmas to all readers of this blog and a Happy 2024 and a big thank you to you, Patsy, as echoing the abpve comments.
I hope things improve with your situation Patsy and appreciate you taking the time out to keep this blog going through it all.
Merry Christmas to everyone and Good wishes and happy writing for 2024
I had an acceptance from TPF this week, which was a welcome boost in this grey weather.
Happy Christmas and a successful new year to everyone, and many thanks to Patsy for this helpful blog
All the very best to everyone and especially to Patsy. Hoping very much that things get easier for you soon. Not much to report. I've got a New Year story coming out next week in Woman's Weekly so it will be good to see that out there. Am determined to keep trying with TPF in 2024. One day...
Congrats to everyone with good news to report and have a great Christmas.
Thanks for the update, Patsy. I've barely been writing as we've had holiday and then the garden to catch up on and Christmas preparations.
Just started a new story, which feels good.
Merry Christmas to everyone reading the blog and to you and family, Patsy.
Alyson
I had a rejection from TPF last week. SIX whole hours! Still nowhere near my record of 39 minutes. I have a couple of stories ‘out’ with WW so fingers crossed.
Echoing what others have said on this blog, I hope your situation is improving, Patsy.
Have a Merry Christmas, everybody.
Michael
Happy Christmas and good wishes to all. Many thanks, as ever, to Patsy, and like everyone else, I hope things improve for you soon.
@ Sheelagh – Congratulations on those acceptances!
I think that for most of us this is a time of year when it's difficult to get much writing done. We're probably best off accepting that and promising ourselves to put in extra effort when time allows.
@ Sharon – Thank you. There will be one more post before the end of the year, but I'll join you in saying Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2024 to everyone - including you of course.
@ Marian – Congratulations on the acceptance!
I guess that even editors aren't immune from accidentally sending out the wrong email, or the right one to the wrong person.
@ HB – I'm glad you had an acceptance to balance out the rejection!
@ Marguerite – Thank you!
You could try subbing a story to TPF on New Year's eve – I have a feeling that wouldn't get an immediate response.
@ Elizabeth – Thank you. Some things are improving. As with much of life, it's complicated.
@ Pamela – Congratulations! Acceptances are always welcome, but I agree that's even more the case on grey days.
@ Sue – Thank you.
Yes, do keep trying. It took me years to get my first acceptance with TPF, as I couldn't quite get on their wavelength. My tip would be to focus just on them for a little while. Read a few current issues (and only that mag) and try writing some for them (and only them) until you've got a real feel for what sets them apart from other mags.
@ Alyson – Snap with the barely writing anything lately. I'm glad you've managed to get back into it and I'm sure I will too when time allows.
@ Michael – Well done for remaining patient through that incredibly long wait to hear back! '-)
@ Maisie – Thank you!
Thank you, Patsy, for keeping such an important blog going. I've been selling well this year but it is harder and harder to find the time to write which has made me feel very despondent. I wish you and everyone who reads the blog a very happy Christmas and a most successful New Year. Tess x
I had an acceptance from Andrew Shaw yesterday for a story I subbed only five weeks ago. It’s to be published in March 24, so is not even going on file, which I’m pleased about. A nice Christmas present.
Michael
@Michael Very well done, that's a coup indeed & a lovely Christmas gift to mark the end of the year.
I've had another story published in Ireland's Own which I'm thrilled about and still waiting to hear on some stories with TPF so keeping fingers crossed.
I echo everyone's sentiments, Patsy for keeping the blog going under difficult circumstances. Well done to all on acceptances, and commiserations on rejections. And I wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year :)
@ Tess – Congratulations on the sales. I know what you mean about finding writing time – we have to fight for that!
@ Michael – Congratulations! Great it's a definite, not one of the 'sort of' acceptances.
@ Carrie - well done!
WELL DONE FOR KEEPING THIS GREAT BLOG GOING, PATSY AND WELL DONE TO EVERYONE FOR KEEPING WRITING. WISHING EVERYONE A WONDERFUL NEW YEAR FILLED WITH GOOD HEALTH, HAPPINESS- CREATIVE INSPIRATION, SUCESS, AND JOY! GOOD WISHES KATE HOGAN
